Siem reap is the capital of the Siem reap province in northwestern Cambodia.
This place is a major gateway to Angkor. This place has a lot of colonial architecture from china and France. In fact, the old French quarter and the old market is very prominent in French architecture.
This place is famous for its traditional dances like Apsara. This place is also filled with handicraft shops and silk farms. The country side is filled with rice paddies. There are many fishing villages in this area too; with bird sanctuaries that are near the Tonle Sap Lake.

This place offers many restaurants and mid range hotels.
Siem Reap means the defeat of Siam, this is how Siem got its name. before this, Siem was called ‘the brilliance of Siem’ because it served as a main crossing border between Cambodia and Siem. Siem which was taken by force from Thailand was later assigned to Cambodia.

The products sold here are quite good ranging from jewellery to hand crafted items.
Since you are here you should heck out the Cambodia landmine museum. This museum is run by a former Khmer soldier and landmine layer. This person started off, by turning the garden outside his house into a disarmed landmine and then he made additions to the landmine area by adding more items. This museum is built in a different location which lies about twelve miles away from Siem Reap.
The Angkor Thom is a beautiful royal city that was built here around the end of the twelfth century. This place is renowned for its many beautiful and artistic temple grounds.
The flea market and the central markets is also where u should pay a visit. You would be able to find a lot of Khmer antiques here and specially made souvenirs for tourists
